SE quadrant is bordered by Washington & king st. Just in that area you have lee st park, jones point, tot lot (royal st park) & lyles crouch playground. Safeway is there, trader joes is 6 blocks north (walkable or free pkg) & whole foods is just up duke st. Harris teeter is under construction one block past trader joes. This is all in the historic part. My parents live one block from king & 2 blocks from wash st without parking, and the most I have ever had to walk was 2 blocks to their house, which isn't bad. It's a pretty idealic place to grow up.

What are the exact boundaries of the "southeast quadrant" ? I mean, obviously I can tell the general difference between nw, ne, se and sw.

Also, when people here are saying "Old Town" (has parks) and "Old Town" ( has a bunch of grocery stores) .... they don't really mean the historic George Washington part from c. 1790, correct? The parks and Trader Joes and WF are on the fringes, as I understand it.

we just moved from OT. Lived there 7 years.
It was nice, but the excitement of it wore off fast. If you have a car, make sure you have dedicated parking. Parking was a disaster.
(There was nothing like driving to the grocery store, coming home and having a parking spot 0.5 miles from the house.

Pp didnt write the it's very white comment. I did. Its too bad you read into the comment so negatively. Perhaps you should adjust your outlook on life and do some inner digging to see why you reacted so negatively to my comment.

I am surprised by people saying that it is very white. Maybe right in the heart of Old Town, but as you move between the king and braddock metros, there are plenty of African American residents. That's where we live, and it is great. DS goes to a private school - we are in the strip zoned for Maury vs. Jefferson Houston, but DS has some behavior problems and we didn't feel that public school would be the best choice to address them regardless.

Well, as it happens, I wasn't the poster who originally wrote that comment. Even so, I do agree that the majority of people who live there are white.

Honestly, you sound a bit uptight and defensive--perhaps you are imagining the snort when it wasn't intended.

Love the SE quadrant of Old Town. You can get right on Washington and take the GW Parkway to DC. You can take the free trolley to the metro if you want public transprtation. Get home park the car and walk to everything. The parks are great and we love walking everywhere. The elementary school is very good and the park is open after 4 and on the days school is out. There are several other parks in walking distance where soccer practice goes on. We don't miss the large yard since we don't have time to take care of it. It is a lifestyle we love and a great small town feel. The Farmer's Market is a fantastic Saturday morning outing.
