One thing you can do is use a Javascript blacklist to prevent those scripts from running. I use a Safari extension called "Javascript Blacklist". The problem is the author was hosting it on Mac.com which has been taken down. You can get a copy here:

http://37prime.wordpress.com/2012/07/04/casualty-of-mobileme-closure-drew-thalers-javascript-blacklist-safari-extension/

But, I don't know if it will ever be updated. So, this might be a temporary fix. Download the extension, double-click to expand the zip archive, then double click the extension to install it. Then go to "Safari -> Preferences -> Extensions" and click on "JavaScript Blacklist". Add "truste.com" to the list of sites from which to block scripts. See if that solves the problem. I just started running Safari configured the same way to also test.

Do you think it could be a hacker?

No.

Flash is evil. That is upon which all of us should be able to agree. Regardless of whatever else people think about Steve Jobs, they have to admit that he was right about this. You can try following the instructions on this page and see if that helps:

Chrome has it's own version of Flash built-in. So, it's a bit different than Safari and Firefox.

OK, that worked well, at least so far. Thanks!

If its truste they must be doing something really stupid to cause flash to work that hard. Adobe needs to get flash security under control. It is appalling.

I should have probably profiled the page loads that were hanging up to see whether it was really them. I suppose I will if I see the problem again.

Since I blocked Truste, I have not had a single lock-up. It's been weeks. Thanks for keeping us up-to-date.

Quick update from OP -- my DH did an update (browser? Flash? He couldn't remember) and I haven't had the issue on DCUM again. I'm having something similar happen on gmail though (WTF?).

So if anyone else is having issues I'd recommend making sure all of your software is up-to-date.

Thanks, Jeff, for your help on this!

Is this the same problem? I am going to try to opt out of TrustE and see if that helps.

Yes, I believe it is related to Flash, although we have been seeing the PluginProcess running high rather than Flash itself. Let us know if opting out of Truste works. Since I blocked Truste, I have not encountered the issue.

I think it has improved, but for some reason I was not able to opt out of everything on Truste.
