How about this? MYOB.

I don't know about you, pp, but I just farmed mine out to some homeless guy on the street while I chased the almighty dollar.

Yep, same here. It was awesome.

Or you know, don't. Since that is your opinion and stating it was a deliberately provocative attempt to start yet another SAHM/WOHM debate. It's 2013. Women have choices. Get the fuck over it already.

NP here. We're all hormone driven. You just have a bias against the predominantly female hormones.

I have a bias against people not staying in their proper place. That includes men and women.

Well, I have a bias against stupid bigots. So I guess we're even.

Look for another job. Both kids are already in school so I'm not sure why you want to stay home full-time now unless lazing about seems like a good idea.

Start your job hunt for a PT job. If you plan it right, you can take a nice healthy sabbatical/vacation between jobs.

I get it OP, I was a SAHM for many years and now work FT. Neither is ideal. That great PT job is elusive, but if I were you I would look for it.

Of course if money is not an issue, why not take a few years off?

OP -
Picture your life working 60hrs a week. I work FT but normal core hours, and honestly the thought of working 60hrs a week out of choice is something you really need ot think about. Assuming you have a DH and that he too works FT, dont you think your kids deserve to see one of you you during the day/night? I also assume this means bringing a nanny on board?

do you NEED to work 60 HRS a week in order to do your job with another company?

It may not be time for you to quit working, but yes to quit working at THIS job. I WOH while my first was a baby and lost my job right around the time I had my second kid, about a year & a half ago. I never want to work full-time again! Or at least, not while my kids are little. But then, you hear how much kids need you when they hit middle school & even through high school...

I wish there were more part-time jobs out there.

OP, could you do a job share, where you and another person share you job, each working half time? That way the position becomes full time, as your company wants, but you are still doing only half?

Otherwise, I would say you should look for a part time job elsewhere. 60 hours a week, plus commute, is no joke. Not worth it unless you adore the work and/or are making a huge salary.

Now second is off to Kindergarten this Fall and I thought I could continue to work part-time and be home for kids by 3pm after school. Not the case... my company is doubling in size and they said they want me to go full-time which would be 60 hours a week. I said I could do 35 maximum. Although I love it here and what I do, I think its time to go.

When did you know it was time to leave? And were you happy with your decision if you decided to stay home even after your kids were in school? I'd love to find something else part-time but its tough.

Where I come from, full time is 40 hours per week. To me, 35-40 would be a reasonable compromise. If you do 60 hours per week, when would you see your kids? I really think what your employer is asking for is out of line. Any thought on approaching them about a job share? Essentially make the position into (2) 30 hour a week positions?

Where you come from? Where is that? Sounds like a nice reasonable place to live. I'd like to go there....

Not the PP, but I moved here from Cincinnati. A workweek was 40 hours where I worked, even for executives. We occasionally had to travel or do evening events, but the standard workday was 8-5 with 60 minutes of break.
