ding ding ding. with regard to PK3, this is because all applicants went into the lottery, sibs and nonsibs. everyone got a lottery number 1-570ish. then all sibs were admitted, regardless of number. then the remaining applicants were sorted according to lottery number on the waitlist. since 21 sibs were admitted, waitlist numbers could vary by 21. for instance, i am super unlucky, am lottery #570. 21 admitted students means my WL # is 549. see how my WL and lottery vary by 21? on the other hand, i'm really lucky (sort of) my name was pulled out first. but i'm not a sib. so my lottery number is #1, but i didn't get admitted as i said b/c i'm not a sib and there weren't initially any non-sib spots. but i'm first on the WL. so in that case, my WL and lottery number will be the same-- #1. it's not a sinister system, people. and besides, what interest would tehre be in playing around with the lottery when no one is really realistically coming off the waitlist and it's only sibs on there?
So if someone has a WL of 70 and a lottery # of 70 as well, what does that mean?

Asking again, basically becasue I want someone to quash my hopes and dreams before I get too excited about the possibility - can anyone tell me how far they went into the waitlists last year? Specifically K. And, does anyone know how long I'll have to retrun an answer?

Really, this is not a hard concept people. 13:38 is correct. There is no conspiracy. Why in the world would you think lottery number or waitlist number = application number?

They should have explained this right away. The lottery number is the number assigned to the child when his/her name was "pulled out of the hat." The waitlist number is the number assigned to the child after other children with preference were taken into account. Or so I think. If the "lottery number" was supposed to be a random number assigned to your child in advance there would be no need to list their name too.

I think these weren't their application numbers going into the lottery but the number they got as their names were being drawn. So a #1 means they were the first drawn.

Doesn't help me get in at the ones I DO want into, but it helps keep me realistic about back up planning.

I appreciate the encouragement, but can you tell me how you arrive at my K chances being "much better"? Didn't they only admit FIVE new K students, and they had over 200 applications for that grade as well?
Not to mention, oy those TWINS! I understand that twins makes it hard to get them into the same school if you're going for the popular ones, but if you get drawn at lottery before they run out of spaces, how lucky are you because you get TWO kids into a great school! Oh WHY didn't I have twins??? Oh, right, because one made me almost crazy and we never could have handled two. But still, admitted twins are the luckiest of the lucky!

We're in the 270s for PK4. Kinda wish I'd posted more troll-y, alarmist threads about their new location, maybe could have scared the 270+ people in front of me away?
