Pottery barn isn't great. Pricey and easily damaged IMHO. We bought a higher end floor sample at a store in DE (at the beach). We also bought another higher end floor sample at a store on Rockville pike.

Fwiw, we love our table and chairs from the great British pine mine in Kensington. Google their website. We went with antique reproduction pine table with chairs stained black with a distressed finish. Ten years old, and holding up well.

On a table?

Yes, bedbugs can travel even in the crevices of wood furniture. I would not buy anything used.

Op, with that budget I would not buy new - you just wont get the quality. I have seen great things on Craigslist. Also, check out floor sample sales at some the the local furturue stores.

Our kitchen table is from World market and the value is great. I would look there. I also wanted a huge table for the dining room, and ended up getting one at IKEA. I didn't care for the ikea chairs so I bought them elsewhere.
