This stuff drives me crazy. Like Jindc (hi, it's pumpkin!) I need stuff to "work." I try to just do the best I can without going overboard. For me, I'm big on avoiding artificial fragrances, pthalates, parabans, and reducing the amount of preservatives as much as possible. I use the yes to carrots line. But, then PP's link to stuff like what is sodium benzoate is distressing. Lush, and other companies (like california baby, which I used to love for my kid but who ticked me off so much when they quietly started using sodium benzoate) started off natural and then as they move into bigger markets start to cave to some of the appeal of preservatives to make mass marketing easier.
I switch between the acure lemongrass shampoo and conditioner, shikai color protect shampoo and conditioner (also whole foods) and yes to carrots (target, the least natural of the three I think). ((I need to switch hit on shampoos or my fine, limp, hair goes into mourning). I'm not sure how "completely perfect" any of these are, but they're definitely better than what you get standard at the drugstore. I use alba organic unscented lotion, mainly because anything else makes my pregnant skin go all hivey.
If you think organic skin care is hard to find, wait until you start to see the shite that's in baby care stuff. Johnsons recently took the worst out of their product but I remember registering for all of this awesome smelling mustela stuff then chucking it all once I spent some time on EWG.
Now I try to stay away from EWG, because I feel like it convinces me that the only way to be completely safe is to wash your hair with filtered water and a slice of organic lemon.
