I actually don't think that is the problem with the RP principal at all. Following policy is fine. Her problem is the way she deals with parents. MCPS is supposed to treat parents like part of the solution. She treats parents as a problem that needs to be solved. She is disrespectful in every encounter and overly punitive when it comes to children. I'm not even sure she knows what MCPS policy is.

As a parent at rp, I think the principal is awful. Simply awful. Terrible with parents and children. A stickler for some rules, and totally disregards others. Has no knowledge of special education law or policies. Refuses to do anything about poor teaching.

And Ritchie Park feeds into JW for middle school so it is relevant. And yes the school is nasty. Full of Twinbrook illegals and gangs from Lincoln Park and the apartments behind McGruders. Most Fallsgrove parents send to private or parochial.

The 5th school might make RP less crowded but if you lose Fallsgrove it will make the school even worse. They need to lose the small area off HUD and apartments off of Maryland Ave. They added it to make the zoning politically correct years back and it has completely affected the school. It used to just be Potomac Woods and Horizon Hill that went to the school. It was great then. [/quot

Wow...just wow. I am not at RP but am in the cluster and am very happy that my DD has friends of many different cultures AND SES backgrounds. It is actually one of the reasons I live in Rockville. You, however, are exactly the kind of person I hoped to avoid when I moved to this area.

I find it interesting that I have seen a thread about how bad the principal at Ritchie park is once every six or so months. I have never seen this at another school. Have parents complained? How bad could this principal really be?

They don't care about a classmates legal status because I can't imagine it coming up in a 12-14 year old's world. They care about their new phone or their soccer skills or their funny jokes...they are not asking to see a green card/passport for a seat at the lunch table.
