Not preppy, but WASPy - I know a friend's aunt is named Cheddar. That's right, as in cheese.

Lifelong Muffy here. I nearly passed out when I met someone with the given name Muffy. I was young enough that I am pretty sure I said something assholish like "I didn't think that was legal." yes, officially naming a child a nickname still drives me nuts.

You'd be surprised by some of the old money preppy ladies' names...India, for example.

Yes! Another card-carrying prep here and agree 100% with this list.

Add me to the list! Catherine can have the nickname Kiki.

Is India common in New England families? I know it's old-school Southern.

In my somewhat preppy family, the names Julia, Caroline, Elizabeth, Anna, Sarah, Margaret, Jane, Anne, and Katherine dominate. No problem with cousins sharing names, either.

Some of the odder nicknames include Cricket, Buzzy, Poochie, Lil, Mugs, and Cappy, as well as normal ones like Meg and Sadie. Also, several of the girls go by their middle names, which are family surnames, rather than the names listed above.
