NP here. I will echo the above concerns re Elizabeth Wilson, plus a few more.

-- Payment must be in cash. She will not give you any documentation that can be used to get reimbursed from an FSA.

--Her 2008 and 2009 vacations were 6 weeks long, not the month she indicates in the contract.

Know that this doesn't solve anything now but if you are able to get on the Bright Horizon's waiting list do it NOW! My DH is a fed and we signed up when I was two months pregnant and didn't get into our daycare until she was 4 months. When they say 1-1.5 years they are not joking. We currently pay $1470 a month. Maybe you can do a nanny share?

Another set of concerns about Elizabeth Wilson - I've never been so rudely treated in my life. It truly worries me that she has children left alone with her in her home.

we completely agree with the above concerns about Elizabeth. we met with her in regards to our 10 month, and these things were very rudely described to us. her home has no protection whatsoever for a child, she seems very rude and uninterested in our sons needs, and more focused on how quickly she can get paid.

at least from a first impression, this would not be a place i would feel comfortable leaving my child, at all

I met with Elizabeth Wilson re: care for our 3 month old. Quick summary:
- She showed very little engagement with our baby who we brought along with us, and was more interested in quizzing us on what we do and talking about logistics (dropoff must be in car seat, provide food, etc.), instead of all the things I wanted to know about her daycare (how many kids, what they do all day, how she handles multiple infants, etc.).
- When asked if she would take the baby outside, she said no b/c if she did, he would not sleep, and babies needed their sleep. Not sure if she takes toddlers outside or not.
- When asked what kind of activities she engages in with infants, she looked at me blankly, and then said that I shouldn't worry about that yet b/c he's only 3 months old. I asked if she reads books to the babies, and she sort of laughed, "Do YOU read books to your baby??" She got defensive and said she would read books if I really wanted her to, but she felt it wasn't necessary until at least 6 months (that's what she did with her daughter who now speaks 3 languages and graduated from Princeton!). Again, not sure what activities she engages in with toddlers, b/c she didn't think it was important for me to know.
- Her contract states that if you are late in picking up your child, she will charge a dollar per minute, even if you call in advance. Not sure if this is the norm with daycares in general, but it seemed steep to me. It also says you have to give 2 months notice if you leave before a full year, and if you don't, you will be required to pay two months in full. Again, not sure if this is the norm.
- She mentioned that she is closed on federal holidays, and said she would give a month's notice before taking any vacation. As we read the contract, it stated that she takes a month of vacation in the summer. When we inquired about it, she said she didn't mention it to us b/c it's not until next year and she would give us plenty of notice before her trip to France.

Our babysitter has an immediate full-time opening (infant preferred) in her home in Glover Park. Elizabeth Wilson is originally from France, but she has been in the US for many years. She is loving and caring and considers herself to be the children's French grandmother. She has been providing childcare for a long time, and her clients tend to start care when their children are babies and stay until it's time for preschool. I have absolutely no worries when I drop off our 6 month old, and the baby comes back to me well rested and very happy. When I chat with her on the porch, the baby looks up at her lovingly, which about says it all!! Plus, I love the fact that she's immersed in French all day.

yikes. i'm in the same boat (logan circle, due in feb; will need care starting after about a year). i'd love to use an at home daycare in logan or dupont... just having trouble finding them. suggestions appreciated...

I have friends who pay $1850 a month for Bright Horizon. We pay $321 week for a NAEYC center but its federally sponsored and I am fed gov.

I currently work at Bright Horizons with the Two's. I've always have had a passion to work with kids and always wanted to do it for myself once able to. I just bought a brand new house in SE Washington off of Penn Ave and would like suggestions on reasonable rates both for my livelihood and ones that would be economical too. I am an energetic young woman, willing to provide meals/snacks and possibly transportation, college educated and have been assured by parents at Bright Horizons, should I leave they would be glad to provide reeferences. Half my salary goes to daycare. It sucks.

When I was looking at daycares the cheapest one I found nearby U St/Adams Morgan/downtown was $1150/month. That was the Y that closed & relocated their CDC over on N Capitol. I see there is a CDC at the church at 11th & V that I never looked at. Looks kind of depressing from the outside, but it might be worth a look or at least a phone call.

In-home daycare definitely tends to be cheaper, but it was too overwhelming for me to try to figure out a good fit without a recommendation.
