I have a very sensitive nose, so I’d do the sniff test. If it had no odd odor, I might try just one or two spoons for 24 hr to see if I felt sick.

Keeping the thread alive—10 years! Just bought some of these today and my husband forgot to put them in the fridge. It’s only been 5 hours, will they still be ok?

I disagree with this. If the grapefruit had been "canned" like the fruit cups that are shelf stable, then the fruit has been heated in the package to kill pathogens. If the fruit was not heated in the package, then it needs to be refrigerated because it is not sterile inside the package. I am guessing that you think the OP is talking about generic fruit cups off the shelf and not ones that came from the refrigerated case at the store.

Well it's clearly becuase they've been unrefrigerated for 9 years now while deciding if they were ok to eat. I guess now we have an answer and the thread can die.
