I'm the one that gave the detailed explanation.
When the school do the sit down meeting to determine who gets the label and who doesn't, there are inevitably kids who are borderline. These kids will get letters that say that, and they can be retested the following year, and even the year after that (grades 4 and 5).

I really don't think there is any point to the testing. If you don't want to have your child rescreened, let the administration know. It might be useful to have the label if you ever move somewhere where having the label will get in into programs, or if you're unsure of your child's abilities in comparison to other students. Moco doesn't really use the label as a method of gatekeeping, but I think it's to comply with the law and also because it's what some people want.

The reason I asked was that we got the Global Screening form again this year in 3rd grade, with "grades 3, 4, and 5 (rescreen)" as part of the title.

We didn't apply for HGC and our school doesn't (to my knowledge) have separate GT for math/reading beyond the multiple math and reading groups within the classroom.

DC also took the InView test again in January, as she was listed as "rescreen" on the form that came home in June on the last day of school.

Just curious what the purpose of all this testing really is.

I believe the global screening feedback that 2nd grade parents have received is used only for determining the label in second grade, and not for anything in later grades.
