Most people around me, except for the friends going through the same thing right now, have no idea that we are going through the admissions process this year. My point was that I am expressing my stress here on this board so that I DON'T have to talk to anyone else about it IRL, except for DH and one close friend.

You have to pull your child out of a place s/he's gotten to know and away from his/her friends. You have to deal with the fact that you just spent $30K per year on something you feel wasn't worth the price.
I'm guessing that those of you calling OP crazy or telling her to relax haven't been though the admissions process recently.

And how do you know, this would not happen in your first choice, to-die-for-school? There is no need to stress over K - it will be all right no matter which private school you end up in.

Figure out where you put the cigar cutter and cigars. Take the boxster out very late tonight when all the traffic has died down, head up to your favorite road, put all the windows down and wind through the gears a few times. Perhaps pull up on one of the overlooks on mulholland (oops, meant the GW, seem to be channeling my youth), and think how short the time is between you stressing about there school, and them stressing about their first job/girl/life.
Obsess all you like. You've earned it. Wallow in it.

I empathize as I am on pins and needles waiting to hear from K schools and wondering if the letters will arrive Saturday or Monday etc etc and being cautiously optimistic.
And she's wrong. It isn't that difficult to reverse and switch schools and this decision is NOT do or die.
Uh, yes it is.
