Occasionally she will look at us if she is on her change table or in her bouncy chair but other than that she tries very hard not to look into anyones eyes. If I try to get in her face to look at me she freaks out. She doesn't make eye contact when feeding either. How is your daughter now? Did she improve? We are going to see our doc soon.

I know this is an old forum, but looking for updates from anyone. My 2 month old son is the exact same with the majority of these stories and we’re very concerned about autism.

Maybe start a new thread next time instead of posting on a 3 year old thread.
Get your son's neck checked out by the ped ASAP. Sounds like torticolis.

I was in your shoes and started speech therapy at 6 months. Speech therapy doesn't work on talking but on language as a whole. The eye contact issue was rectified and with help of the speech therapist. OP the earlier the better but I wouldn't do anything before 6 months.

Have the doctor consider whether he has torticolis. This might be why he's only looking one direction. If so, you should do some neck exercises to help him loosen the muscles.

Babies are funny at this age. I wouldn't read too much into it. Talk with your doctor at the next appointment, or call now and ask. It's also very hard to judge your own baby. I was very dismissive of what my baby was doing, and other people told me, "Oh, he's looking at you!" I really didn't see it for some reason. I expected him to look at me differently, I guess. Baby's eyes are developed like older kids' or adults' eyes, so they do look a bit different.

Try to relax. I was super worried about this with my older child, and it was totally fine. He was uncomfortable and tired a lot, and I think that just made him not want to engage. Plus, you might have forgotten how hard it is for LOs like that to focus. I just had #2 and had to remind myself that the baby actually was trying to look at me because he wasn't focusing like I've gotten used to with my older child. Now he's 3.5 months and totally looking at faces and smiling, etc.

Are you sure this isn't something happening when your baby is overtired or overstimulated? First, stop trying too hard to get the baby to look at you. Respect the baby's desire to look away. Try to find other ways to engage. Baby massage is a great way to do that without eye contact

Second, relax about it. Like me, you might have just forgotten how little baby eyes look. It's hard for them to focus.

Third, some babies simply are more or less interested in faces. Maybe your baby is watching the older kid bound around and is focused on the motion. Maybe the baby is just taking in the whole world. My older kid is totally typical in development but did not do much eye contact at this age.
