As lacrosse explodes at the youth and HS level but only grows slowly at the college ranks, it will be tougher and tougher to play in college. Many more kids play football and basketball, but here are also many, many more college slots available.

To the original poster, do not waste your time with most of the replies on this thread. Some of them have factually correct information but most are based on biased emotion. Do yourself a favor and go to "Laxpower" at www.laxpower.com. This site is devoted to lacrosse and contains news articles and forums which will address your questions.

As far playing in college, soccer, baseball, tennis etc more competetive than lacrosse. Everyone everywhere plays these sports. Even though LAX is catching on, there are just a few lacrosse hotspots in the country. I know kids who were not even all-met honorable mentions playing D-I.

Teams routinely have more than 30 members so a many players get no money and most who do get some get fraction of a scholarship. Ivies don't give athletic grants and many other schools don't have the financial resources to fund scholarships in lax (and several other sports). If you are good at lax you may be able to use it to leverage up your opportunity to get into a school that might otherwise be a stretch.

Club lax is big and very competitive and offered at a very large number of schools. Michigan recently upgraded its club program to D-I after years of being one of the top club programs in the U.S.

The most important thing is getting to the right school for your kid, not which lax program. Attrition rates among players--both good and marginal--can be quite high. You need to ask yourself, if there was not lax, would I still want to be here?

Few, if any, of the screamers at the U-9 club games, and then later, the Landon, St. Albans, Prep, Gonzaga and Stagnes games, desire, or need, the scholarship money. They want it for the "leverage" in admissions you mentioned in passing.

I took the slow comment to mean dumb. That is why I thought it was so offensive.

One of the meanest posts on this very mean site. "Slow white kids." Really? Would you speak this venomously about children - yes, children - in your real life? Awful.
