You are comparing just one Arlington neighborhood to Tyson's, but ok. Rosslyn in 1967 was more walkable that Tyson's today, hands down. There were sidewalks, skywalks, and retail along the major streets. Pre-1967 Rosslyn was even more walkable, when it resembled an old town with small blocks that were bulldozed to build the Rosslyn of the 60s and 70s. Your photos don't really support your argument.
Once again, I encourage you to look at a map of Arlington. Compare it with a map of Tyson's. The residents in Lyon Village walked to Clarendon to shop in the 40s, the 60s and they still do today. Try doing that in Tyson's. Can you walk from your single family home in McLean or Pimmit Hills to Tyson's. No.
