I am so tired of dismissive posts like this one. We purchased our SFH house in 20912 three years ago for less than $350k and it is none of those things. Another just down the street just sold for slightly over $400k. Yes, we had to look hard. But it's not impossible. Remember, you don't need "the vast majority" of houses; you just need one.

I think your best best is Playford Ln, but it is early more houses will be coming on the market.

Know that the people who post in MD will say you have to be in a Bethesda School to get a good education, but that is not what the people who live here think.

Hyattsville or Greenbelt?

The commute may be doable but there are virtually no single-family homes that sell for less than $350K.

Olney sounds like a good suggestion. While people generally complain that it's a long commute to DC, to Silver Spring I think it's doable. Also, that area has good housing and lots of SAHMs and kids.

20895 isn't a bad idea, though not a ton there.

OP, you certainly could live further out and your husband could commute in via MARC. You know your family best: if you want more space/land and he truly doesn't mind a lengthy commute (though of course MARC is better than driving that long), it could be a great fit.

Have you even come over to silver spring to see what is available? If your husband really wants to commute on the Marc then go for it, but why not look close to work? This realtor, associated with this property knows the area, I see her name on lots of local listings. I've been to many of her open houses.
