I think you can still honor his father by naming him Jack. I completely agree that Jack is a nickname for John, not Jon, which is just another nickname.

I can't stand the name George. It's such an old man name.

If DH is Jon, not Jonathan, and you want to name him after DH, you could always name your DS Jonathan. Then call him Jonathan, Jon, Jonny, or Jack. I am not a fan of George at all.

Agree Jon is short for Jonathan.

I prefer Jonathan over George, but George is not a bad name. I like that Jonathan can be called "Jon" or "Jack"--just gives him options. Not sure if there are any nicknames for "George?"

My college roommate named her son George (he's 9 years old now.)

Oh, George is so old man. I don't get that - my friend just named her baby that, and I thought she was joking!

Love John. Has that classic, but not old man tone to it.

Jon would be fine, too, or Jonathan, or Jack. All those choices far surpass George.

I have a John that goes by Jack. We did it for the same reasons..go for it. I don't care if it's overdone. Choose the name you love and has meaning.

Love George. Hate Jon because it is a derivative/nickname, not a formal name. If you want to call him Jack, which I also despise because it is overdone and I have never known a jack that wasn't pompous, name him John.
