What about putting them out side in the rain? Is that okay?

I used to work at Williams Sonoma in college. They always told us to tell people not to put cookware in the dishwasher, including stainless, but I never really got a good reason why not.

Copper and non-stick really should not go in the dishwasher. It can ruin them for sure.

I usually handwash them (for space and time reasons) but run them through the dishwasher every couple of months or so. It's the only thing that gets the area around the gromits clean!

Stainless steel is fine in the DW. You cannot put copper, aluminum or cast iron in the DW.

Well I have all-clad with spots, guess I am the only one! I don't care how it looks though. The cook surface is great and has no spots or anything, looks good as new. It is the bottom that is dreadfully spotted/discolored/etc. But I think it did get that way from the dishwasher.
