I did follow the thread. Yes, this was a new kid... but there was no indication that the question changed.

The question changed because the new kid was not in the pool last year and the poster assumed that OP's child wasn't in the pool this year because she assumed the percentile rankings this year mean the same as last. The follow up posts were just explaining the difference between the two.
