We love American Standard, low VOC in every ingredient a little more costly than standard brands, but with kids/infants in the house a worthwhile expense

Used Behr Premium Plus Ultra throughout our house and it's fantastic. Great coverage, even over dark colored walls, without primer. Two coats and you're done.

Not that this helps OP since he/she doesn't have a Home Depot...

I have bought Sherman Williams and Benjamin Moore and they were both hard to paint with, did not last after opened and even the low VOC stunk. For the price difference, which we were willing to pay, it was not worth it. Love Behr paints, especially the newest formula. If it is on the walls, washes well, there are so many better things to do with that extra money. All I want is easy to clean and visual effects.


+1 I've got all three in the house (we did painting in stages) and the Behr looks just as good, but went on better. I think SW has a better color palette, but you can get their colors matched onto Behr's base.

Agree with this. I used Mythic in my house for chemical avoidance reasons. The Natura/aura might have been a better product in terms of ease of painting with it, but it was more expensive so I went with mythic. Depending on how that holds up I will either use that again next time I need to or go with BM's Natura or aura. Mythic can be mixed in any of the other paint brand colors (we've used a number of Behr colors) and I got it at true value.

Often, the tints that they put in paint alters its VOC level. So, Mythic paint base can be low- or no-VOC, but once you add in colors, you get VOCs again. Just something to be aware of.

I've not used it, but Consumer Reports rated Clark + Kensington paint (an Ace Hardware store product) very highly. I really like Benjamin Moore Aura, but C + K is less than half the price. So I may be trying that for my next project.

20:05 back. Yes, Farrow and Ball is really really good -- like deluxe paint. I would put it even above BM (which I would put just above SW).

Behr is terrible. The colors and finish are inconsistent and the coverage is poor. You get what you pay for.
Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams.

I like Behr fancy one with primer and tried a lot of other low VOC and none worked as well. You can order a color fan, sample paints and even the paint online. Looks like it ships free over $45.

Another vote for C2 paint. We bought it in Chantilly, VA at a paint store near Lowe's...the name escapes me...
