I don't think 2.0 is affecting all the elementary grades yet. I'm looking at my son's 5th grade report card and it still has traditional letter grades.....

I would buy that t-shirt. Can we use the proceeds to sue Starr?

Attended DD's middle school orientation last night.
According to the "6th grade math team leader" (what a title!). Dr. Starr thinks that colleges do not really consider elementary/middle school grades. So grades don't matter.

I know I know, we, as parents need to know so that the kids get the help they need. Tell Starr.

For the ES and P. DD's 5th gr. teacher told us:
P is good (yeah? how good? B good or A good?)
ES is when the kids go above and beyond (yeah? is it an A+?) the 2 systems do not co-relate. (what does it mean?)

I agree with 06:55 we need to sell some t-shirts.

I think there are no comments with 2.0. They got rid of them. B/c that is helpful.

My kindergartener got an I in art as well, and we are stumped since he is so into art (he's the kid that will sit at a table and draw and color for nearly an hour or fun, and his pictures always have a great deal of detail). Who knows.

Also, why do PE, Art and Music get graded the same way Math and Reading get graded, given that the specials are only for one hour each week and they have reading and math every day. My kids got I in Performing Music but they've never performed any music. Now they're depressed because they think they're flunking music. These report cards are a new low for MCPS.

My kid got an I in Art and Music. How can a Kindergartner fail Art?

Kindergarten teachers are judging 5 yo's ability to "think outside the box"?!? My 50 yo boss can't even do that with her entire team!

Did anyone get any actual comments?

I have twins in elementary school. One got all P's. One got 7 ES's and the rest P's. It correlates with their skills IMO. I don't mind the report card, but we've had it all along so have nothing to compare it to...

I mean, according to the above grade level.

It's possible, I think. If the kid can demonstrate the depth of understanding, e.g., clearly (according to the proper grade level) describe how to get to the answer to a problem, he/she can get ES in math.

Glad we all have company!

Anyone know how they come up with the grades? Any teachers out there? I swear my DD got an I in something but brought home nothing but P on papers the whole quarter.

I'd love to know if its even possible to get an ES in math, since there doesn't seem to be a way to do better than P (getting all things right).

Trying not to be "that mom" but just want to know how my kid is doing.

The best part used to be the narrative write up but this quarter it was literally one sentence. Not sure if tat is a function of his grade/teacher but it was disappointing.

I don't like them either. But I don't remember the pre-2.0 report cards being all that illuminating, perhaps because my kid was still in the early grades (he's now a third grader.) He was not graded on an A to F scale in K, first or second either....
