OP here. It's my official last day today and I'm meeting with HR and my manager this morning. I completed everything they asked me to do so hopefully they will treat me well.

OP, have you signed anything? don't. They haven't notified you in writing of your termination, much less severance. I would not sign a release waiver and I ask HR what the severance policy is (usually reflects your time in job) as well as what th notification procedure is.

Usually HR, or maybe a member of management, will tell you of the termination and HR should always know what the severance policy is. Unless you are a high level exec, no, severance is not usually negotiable lol. They have a formula - 3 weeks for every year employed, up to 6 months, or whatever, benefits for xxx months, etc. There's a set policy for severance. Strange they are saying they don't know.

If you do indeed work at a large government contractor like BAE or SAIC etc., I am extremely surprised to hear this. Also is usually standard practice to have a rep from HR present when you are notified of your termination, regardless of circumstances (cause vs. layoff).

Not telling you what the severance package is sounds shady to me. I work in HR and anytime we've offered severance we decide ahead of time exactly what it will be (based on policy or past practice) and let the terminated employee know that. You'll likely be asked to sign a standard letter saying that by accepting severance you agree not to disparage the company and a few other things. Bottom line is if they haven't told you, something shady is going on. Or they just don't have their shit together. And, like someone else said, if you don't see it in writing it never happened. Certainly not happening in my world and not on DCUM. Every day is a new report of someone losing a job or a complaint about an employer no longer providing a benefit such as 401K match. It's grim out there.
