Sounds like a lot of public school parents responding. OP, you and DH will make the right choice for your family based on your priorities. Some private school parents who make less do with less and are perfectly happy. Vacations are not to big name places or overseas, no fancy wardrobes or fancy cars. It's ok. We don't compare or try to keep up with the Jonses, we just think private school is a better situation for our kids and we put a little less away right now. If that doesn't work for you, public school is the answer. No judgement. I think you started this thread to get a specific answer.

I think if they are unhappy socially at public school, they're not necessarily going to be any happier at private. They might even be unhappier. And if you're going to be unhappier yourself, I don't see this as a good solution. Maybe you guys should spend a small fraction of the cost of private school tuition on counseling to figure out why the kids are unhappy socially and how to fix it without switching to private school.

A million a year? Partner at a law firm. Hedge fund manager. Venture Capital or Private Equity. Investment Banking Managing Partner. Business Owner. Really any of these.

Not even necessary to be $1M.... $25K * 2 = $50K * 12 ... $600K a year is ballpark what a VP at Carlyle would take home, or a mid-level executive at Hilton, and maybe a high end partner at any of the consulting firms.
