I had a very tasty lunch here a week or so ago and liked their wine list very much. http://www.artisanalbistro.com/

We walked everywhere so I don't know what others are talking about here. Kitano has great jazz and a great brunch right there.

as mentioned, spend $20.13 at any of the top restaurants.
Korean - any place in little Korea opposite the front of Madison Square Garden.
Chinese - Golden Unicorn, near Lafayette
Desserts - Ferrara's, in Little Italy
cool drinks - Hudson Hotel

I was just in NYC on Sunday/Monday. We took a tour at the Tenement Museum, and watched the video beforehand where they specifically mentioned Ferrara's as being one of the oldest Italian-American businesses--so we sought it out for dessert. I have to say I was pretty disappointed in my cannoli I've heard good things about Veniero's on 1st ave and 11th St.

Did u happen to look at your own hotel via Priceline? Mid-town is kinda crazy, crowded all the time. I am the poster whom said that area is weird. It is - it isn't really mid-town, really isn't Grammercy, sort of Murray Hill-ish. Not the hotest or hippest, but again, you probably won't spend a lot of time in hotel anyhow. Hotels should be very easy to come by, as long as the UN isn't in session then.
