Oh, I hope so. I've lived here for 2 years and still can't find a decent donut place. I cringe when people recommend Dunkin donuts or krispie cremes. Not good, people.

OK, I hate to sound like a broken record, but repeat after me: Baked and Wired. Cupcakes, cookies, brownies, coffee cake, quiche, homemade granola, and those yummy breakfast biscuits. Plus, great coffee.

Those other places are one-trick ponies, and not very good ones at that. B&W is a real-deal bakery.

If you're ever in NYC, stop by Buerre & Sel in the Essex Street Market for seriously delicious, $$$ cookies with the Dorie Greenspan name.
I actually prefer to make my own cookies though. I like shortbread & its variants the best, which are easy to do at home.

Argh, sorry for the double post. Computer froze up on me while trying to submit the first one, didn't see it posted, and then tried to rewrite and resubmit.

Pie poster here ... I've tried Dangerously Delicious from their truck and was disappointed. I haven't tried the one in Georgetown b/c it is not convenient for me, but one day I will. There is also Pie Gourmet in Vienna that is pretty good but too far away. Besides, 3 pie shops in such a huge metro area isn't enough! What I want is good pie stores as common as the ubiquitous cupcake shops!
