Chicos clothes are badly made; they almost seem disposable. They are so ugly that you wouldn't want to wear them year after year.

The wardrobe basics (pants, tops, skirts) are all shiny and icky. They would do better to incorporate some natural fibers.

Who doesn't? But most of us are not tall and slim.

Problem is, I am boxy, too! But I still don't need those large prints. I think their demographic is plump and 65+. Looks cute on a younger women in a less urban setting maybe? Has changed a LOT over the years.

I'm 35 and I like Chico's t-shirts because they are thick (read, not see through and won't pill) and actually last longer than a year. The rest of their clothing though is godawful with garish patterns and no shape whatsoever. Not even my mom, their target market, looks good in their clothes.

52yo PP here and I completely agree. It is like looking for the holy grail, shopping is.

Ditto. Ditto. Ditto. And I would add that I find J. Crew cheaply made and overpriced.

I don't care where anyone chooses to shop and I respect that everyone has their own individual taste. But when you ask why do people hate chicos, my reason is that I think their clothes are just ugly, pseudo-ethnic, and ugly. I'm 40 and maybe in 10-20 years I'll find myself gravitating to chicos but for now, no thank you.

I am in the target demographic for Chico's and actually like some of their tops, jackets and accessories but my 70ish MIL and her friends shop there. I do not want to be worrying about matching outfits with them!

How about J. Jill? J. Jill has some forgiving clothes but I feel like they're not quite as middle-aged as Chico's. Chico's doesn't appeal to me, but I've bought a few things at J. Jill.

(I'm a 40-year-old mom of one who wears Ann Taylor, J Crew, Banana Republic, Eddie Bauer and Gap, but have to work out daily in order to do so.)

I too am searching for that just right store after babies, so to speak. Chicos is okay once in a while, not for the whole wardrobe. ITA w/PP that over 20 years, women have NO business with low rise anything

I also agree w/PP that said this area fears age more than most. It is pretty funny.
