Most of them have lower rates of admission than Cornell or UPenn. Which are fine schools (I went to Penn) but DC doesn't go to either.

I believe the purpose of the thread was to get at successful admission stretches - your average kid (by DC standards any way) getting into a college that appeared to be above her/his reach.
