This is especially true for bigger dogs, some say 18 months for the big breeds or you will end up with fat orthopedic bills.

OP, neutering will not affect inter species aggression. but may temper aggression towards other dogs. Intact male dogs smell more, but this might not be as much of a problem with a smaller breed. Yes, the dog will be more aloof if left intact, but I have never seen that as a problem. Why not just try going without it for a while, and if you don't like it then get him fixed. I have had three intect males and only had to fix one because of odor.

Yes and No. Neutering a dog will not affect his behavior - only you will. The majority of dog owners do not take their dogs to basic obedience training.A responsible dog owner will ensure proper training and socialization. I have had two intact males and they do not hump, don't have stinky pee, are not aggressive with other males etc. There is a lot of research from UPenn etc. stating that there is really no reason to neuter other than to make life easier for you in case there is a female in heat in the area.

However, if your are not going to invest the time in training and socialization, if you are not able to contain your dog should an available female in heat be around...then yes, you should neuter.

our vet won't neuter until pup is 16-20 weeks old. So, your neuter before three months doesn't really work.

Sorry to say that neutering doesn't resolve this. Our six month old puppy was neutered a couple of weeks ago and, within days after the surgery, he was back to humping as much as ever. Still marks everything too---though, fortunately, mostly outdoors.

It takes a few months for all those hormones to completely go away. Also, you waited to long to neuter him and he learned this behavior. Next time, neuter before three months and you won't have this problem.
