You had an uncomplicated natural miscarriage. I'm happy for you. I had two like that, and one that involved a serious hemorhagged. My midwife told me to go to the ER. I had to go by ambulance because I had lost so much blood I couldn't stand or walk. I was admitted to the hospital for 2 days and required a blood transfusion. If my husband hadn't been paying attention and called the midwife I would have bled to death. I had lost so much blood that all I wanted to do was sleep. I would have died in my sleep.

I can't quite figure out what OP is insult-bragging _about_. Where is the accomplishment, however fake, in a misscarriage that went X or Y way? Which superior quality of hers is she trying to lord over others here?

I had what I was told was likely either a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy. It turned out to be an ectopic. I lost so much blood that by the time I got the to the hospital, I was in shock. I am fine physically (well, except that I am not able to have children naturally anymore- but relatively). Emotionally, the knowledge that I was basically near death has been difficult.

Talk about not being able to look outside your own circumstances. It sounds like you were lucky, OP (despite the miscarriage, which is certainly awful). In a way, I am envious that you clearly haven't suffered in a way that allows you empathy to consider others' situations.

How about this OP? Was my second pregnancy, 11 weeks in, and the pain/blood were so bad I fainted -- it was worse than labor. DH took me to the ER, where it turns out that it was a ruptured ectopic pregnancy (that hadn't been diagnosed) and I had to have emergency surgery so keep from bleeding to death. No waiting in the ER for me.

There are miscarriages and then there are miscarriages and I would never question anyone about what they do when confronted with the possibility of one.

My guess is that your beach housemates wished you had gone to the ER. But way to save a beach weekend for you and DH!

I get that losing a pregnancy is terrible, even devastating, and I get that sometimes it isn't doing what it needs to do and needs help. But I also wonder if there is a rush to the doctor because people think it's like a knife wound or something.

I read stuff online about it, and so many websites would have had me sitting in the ER, and I think that would have made the whole experience even worse.

It sounds like maybe you should have gone to the ER, OP, but you didn't and you got lucky. Not everyone is so lucky. And a lot of us would give up the comfort of sitting at home for the safety of medical attention.

I stayed home for all 3 miscarriages. They were all early losses. One hurt like hell! I made trips to the ER when gushing blood after 2 of 3 babies.

Do you have any idea how much blood is going to the uterus during pregnancy? It can get out of hand quickly. Consider yourself lucky, OP.

OP - I can tell from your response that you didn't read or comprehend any of the responses that you received, so I agree with the PP, we should all just let this thread die.

I thought for sure I could deal with it at home, but the clots and bleeding wouldn't stop and the pain was unbearable. Took 2 ER visits, 1 D&C and 1 blood transfusion to resolve the problem.

15:36 here - If you go into the ER and are basically hemorrhaging, you will not be "sitting" in the ER. After my husband found me in the pool of blood he called 911 and I was transported by ambulance --first and so far only time I've ever been in one. When I got into the hospital, I was immediately tended to: they stabilized me, gave me painkillers (see PP above about the extreme pain of an incomplete miscarriage), finished off the miscarriage, and basically righted my ship.

Perhaps I did rush to the doctor at the first sight of blood after some pain, but it was my first pregnancy. Fortunately, my very compassionate OB gave us guidelines for miscarrying at home, and when things went to shit, yeah, we were raced to the hospital. I can still see my husband's face of sheer terror during that ambulance ride. Sometimes, it's just not as it is "supposed to be."

It's important to remember that not everybody's pregnancies are the same, not everybody's deliveries are the same, and not everybody's miscarriages are the same. There are plenty of complicating factors and each person needs to assess their own situation.
