I am the father of two wonderful sons (one is 2 and the other is 1 1/2). I went looking for "Toys 1 to 2 year old boys like to play with" and after several days of looking with little success, I stumbled across this page.My 2 year old loves the Play-Doh and my 1 1/2 year old son loves the Take-Along Tunes and the Magnet Puzzle.

Trains (and corresponding tracks, bridges, tunnels, etc.). Used every day, sometimes for hours.

Any pretend play items -- kitchen, vet kit, doctors kit, cash register, shave kit, pretend school set, etc. Also Playmobil. My 7 yo also will stlll play with his resin animals and dinosaurs that he's had for years.

also blocks. we have great foam ones. my son has used them for years and years now and many of his friends use them when they are here...

Definitely cars. We have a Wheelies set that's gotten tons of use. Our 18 month old and our 5 year old both love them:

Gosh, we started out with a million toys for kid #1. Got rid of more with each child. All we really need for this age is blocks, toy cars, train table, balls.

Frankly, one matchbox car would probably do it, especially if he had lots of wandering around time outside.

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned Matchbox cars!

My DS started playing with them around age 2 and is now 5 and 1/2. Still played with almost daily. Parked around the house, raced down the hallway, easy to store.

My 3.5 y/o still plays with his toy kitchen (Ikea) and trains/train table daily and for extended periods of time. Never gets tired of them. He received most of the trains and the kitchen when he had just turned 2.
