OK, good for them. I don't think there are a lot in my child's class though - most of the mommies are much older or already have multiple children.

I knew one family with a 9 year age gap, but it was a second marriage. And one of my daughter's friend's moms is getting married again and the little girl tells me they are planning to have a child. So, second marriage seems slightly more accepted for these gaps.

I feel somewhat alone in the world, though. Most assume if you haven't had a second kid within maybe 4 years or so, you have decided to be one and done. But I am the odd woman out in my everyday life with a planned larger gap but life throwing us an even larger one than previously expected.

If you can afford IVF, that is. My insurance covers zip when it comes to fertility treatments, and we are not made of cash.

yep. no problem at age 37 with #1. Waited a year and half to start ttc for #2. I am now 41 and no luck.

Yes. Conceived second try at 35 (had child at 36). Now we're on month 7 of trying at 39 and thinking it's not gonna happen. Part of it, I think, may be that DH and I are tired a lot. With a preschooler running around, it's just sometimes impossible to have the kind of sex life that we had when we were married without kids. I remember with DC1, we did it 2x a day for 10 days midcycle. Now I'm using a fertility monitor, and know we're timing it in the window, but sometimes the best we can muster is every other day late at night during hte high and peak times. Probably missing the small window we have, coupled with the elephant in the room - I'm getting older! On the plus side, I am ovulating every single time and have a good luteal phase length, etc. Very regular period. But....something's not happening.

I'm not going to pursue any treatments. If it happens, it happens. If not, we tried.

#1 was a surprise at 23, so no active ttc there.
#2 took 9 months to conceive at 27.
