I'm speechless that this thread even exists. OP, karma is coming for you.

I marvel at all the people who apparently can pass judgement without knowing that either. I hope you are not the same people posting questions here about raising small kids with small problems . . .
God willing I never find myself as the single parent of an adult who needs mental help. I don't even know how you'd go about getting that in today's world.
+1000. Or the married parent. Or the brother or sister or spouse. Have know many people who've watched helplessly as very ill adult children self destructed, sometimes even taking others along. Help is very limited, and the law is not on your side.

Anonymous wrote:Ten years ago my FIL died of a brain tumor. He was a life long gun owner. When it was clear he was not in his right mind, DH and I snuck out all of his guns while he was sleeping. Why? Because we felt responsible. We still own those guns, stored responsibly. If I ever felt that I, DH or our sons were mentally unstable they would be gone in a heartbeat.

and a hunting rifle. Not a big deal.

When will people start blaming the person who committed the crime, instead of everyone else? When are adults going to be held accountable for their own actions?
Nobody knows yet what was up with Adam Lanza. Clearly he was mentally unstable.. I cannot fathom anyone doing this without something going on. How much did his mother know? How much did he hide? Dangerous people don't always show their cards. Neighbors say he was quiet, etc. so maybe there were no obvious signs of what was really going on in his head.
This is a tragedy. There may never be real answers. Why did she have so many guns? Possibly because she was allowed to. Don't like it? Change it.
