PP, with the lottery your odds are as good as anyone's. The best moments to apply are 5th and 9th. Good luck PP!

I live in Petworth and I would kill to get my kids into this school. Kind of a bummer (for us) that it is lottery placement!

Yes, Latin is good and can be great. Expansion into the new facility and beyond please.

WL High school feels like Dead Poets Society, updated for the 2000's, urban setting - except all the teachers are that one good, wise teacher who gets and cares about kids. The peer group is really nice. The college counselor is motoring. It's a special place.

DCPS historically has been hostile about turning over surplus schools to charters, and under both Fenty and Gray there has been considerable pressure to save some of the best DCPS surplus properties for private developers. Latin is an excellent school but it was distracted for at least a couple of years after the flamboyant mismanagement of its founder, Rev. TR Ahlstrom. During that time, other charter schools were more focused on the space hunt and made progress. However, Latin has been well-managed for several years by the former head of the NCS upper school. I'm glad that Latin has found a permanent campus -- which is centrally located for its student body -- but will face challenges in renovating it.

Yes, renovation of DCPS excessed properties is a challenge but this sort of job has been done quickly and under budget many times. Best of luck to Latin as it takes the plunge.

Does not matter if a bond or co-signed loan as long as the debt service can be made and I see nothing in the 990 that would suggest otherwise. YY looks like a healthy and growing option like Latin.
