Why, just this week, 4-5 of Wilson's finest were casing alleys in the Albemarle St. NW vicinity and breaking into back windows and stealing electronics. (these are not the individuals headed to Yale, by the way).
But even so, I guarantee that a big handful of my neighbors' kids will matriculate from Wilson this year and go to Ivies. Another dozen will go to SLACs. (these are not the same teens kicking in windows and stealing iPads and loitering in alleys).

Maybe I am missing something. I believe all of us want our DC's to go to the best college for THEM. They should have a realistic goals. Small or large, urban or rural, religious or liberal. Parents use the college their DC's attends to brag to their friends. I have worked at several local Univ. mental health counseling centers. Let me put it like this, I left Cornell ( Ivy League) because of the high suicide and attempted suicide rate. These kids were top in their class with high SAT's. The pressure parents put on their teenagers is sad.
Please don't get caught up in the hype. You and your DC have time.
