I'd start a foundation and fund all the worthy organizations and people I could find. (enviornmental orgs, international peace and understanding, allieviating suffering etc.) Campaign for universal health care. Host lots of free cultural events. I'd stay in the same house, but renovate it completely. I'd otherwise live without outward differences. (ie, same cars, schools, jobs) We'd take more real vacations. (ie, rent a house/car etc instead of staying with friends and family and doing things on the cheap)

Wait for the perfect f-you moment, and THEN quit my job.

Take my husband, dog, kid, laptop and favorite pj pants, and leave the front door of my house open. Move into a nice suite at the Ritz while I sort out the logistics.

I would:

-Get my mom to a specialist who could really help her with some medical issues, asap
-Move my family closer to me here in DC
-Hire several assistants and pay them out of pocket, finish out the school year and then start a foundation of my own
-Buy a house and travel extensively

I'd be really, really scared. I'm an anxious person. I wouldn't know what to do, so I'd Xerox the ticket and put it into my safe deposit box. And I'd sit on it for a few weeks. Do nothing. Think about it. Live my regular life. Start researching what to do/not do. See if it's possible that this ticking bomb WON'T ruin my life. Because I'm pretty sure that if I had anything like 300 million all of a sudden, my life would become completely overwhelmed by this windfall and how to handle it, eclipsing everything else, including my family. I'd have to find lawyers, financial advisers, figure out how to handle all this money!! I'd be terrified to tell anyone, because all of a sudden I'd disappear, to be replaced by a big pile of money, bereft of human characteristics. I would be gone.

If I won a million dollars, I'd buy a new car for my husband and put the rest into savings for college. I'd send my youngest child to private school. I don't think I'd buy anything else, though. A million isn't enough to fulfill my dreams.

50% or more straight to Georgetown University Hospital nurses. Probably would work to create a foundation of some sort or just figure out a way to give them all a bonus. So many have been there for us when we needed it.

After that, not sure. My needs are small. Would probably try to get a trainer and see someone about the cellulite on my ass.

Sign up for cross-fit, yoga and pilates.

There's no requirement to marry. When you're that rich, you don't or won't marry. Boy toys, that's all. Ask Oprah.

Buy an island. Or a few. One in the Great Lakes and one in Florida. Retire my mother, my sisters, and create a trust for my kids and nephews. Create a charitable group focusing on historic preservation to help endangered World Heritage sites and smaller spots here at home. Invest in sustainable farming, medical research, and space research. Create a small business in my former hometown to help people out of poverty. Choose a school that's a great fit for my kids. Let them do any enrichment thing they want.

But mostly that thing with the island.

1) Hire a hair dresser to come to my house daily
2) Buy an apartment in Paris
3) Take my entire extended family on a dream vacation

Probably get a divorce, because even though I'm happily married now, I think money would ruin my marriage. We have different views on how to spend/share.

First 30 days? Plan, plan, plan. But I'll join the personal chef bandwagon. Considering the potential haul, it's just not that big a splurge and I am a terrible cook.

Student loans go down first.

Then figure out all the legal and financial planning stuff.

And then call the contractors. Goodbye, horrible kitchen. Farewell, hideous bathrooms. You won't be missed.

Go to LA for a bit - probably rent in Malibu though. Get a personal chef and find the best plastic surgeon for my tummy tuck. Recover from said tummy tuck. While recovering I'd work with financial planners to set up trusts/gifts to immediate family members and a charitable trust.

Travel to a few places to decide where to base ourselves and where to build a vacation home(s).

Then just figure it out from there.
