Our goldendoodle is the ultimate "people dog", meaning he lives for the affection of the family and anyone else he meets. He treats our youngest DD more like a sibling than a pet-owner, though. He's always jumping on her and trying to get her to wrestle him.

Generally, whoever feeds them and gives them the most attention.

Most of the dogs I've lived with have shown some preference, but some much more so than others. I think breed does play a role.

Growing up we had labs and golden retrievers, who were most attuned to my mom, but we're pretty equitable in their affection. I have a shepherd mix now, and he is definitely a one-woman dog. He tolerates my husband and kids, and has a soft-spot in his heart for my FIL, but there is no mistaking that I am his one and only.

We have three dogs. The first I brought to the relationship and I'm obviously his favorite. We joke that in his head he refers to my husband as not the mama. I think the other two gravitate toward me simple because they see the first dog do it. They are happy with attention from others though where our first dog isn't. Beside me and my husband there are very few visitors he'll make an appearance for

My dog likes every living thing she meets and is affectionate with her regular caretakers, and, I'm told, is very easy to watch and dogsit for.

That said, she is most definitely my velcro puppy and if I'm around, prefers me to anyone else.

The cats, on the other hand, don't really care about any of the humans in my house.
