People don't see graduated as something that is bestowed upon you, it's seen as an action that you completed. So even though "you were graduated", in this day and age, it is not seen as that. It is seen as "you graduated" therefore "you graduated from high school" not "you were graduated by the ugly teacher." It doesn't matter what the grammar books say, what matters is the understood meaning. So unless you are getting paid for this, relax. If you are getting paid, then ching, ching!
