yes it is also not a good idea to be obese/unhealthy while trying to conceive a child

To the poster(s) concerned about health and lifespan issues (dead by the time kid is in 20s) - the same thing could be said of young women who are obese or who eat at McDonalds for every meal. The chances of a young obese woman not being around in 20 years is far greater than that of a healthy, active 50 year old.

I totally agree! What is it with the jerks that dish people asking for support. If you can't offer support then shut your traps! No one needs to hear your negative comments.


Right. And if someone wants my "support" as she jumps off a bridge, I should offer it, I suppose. Never, ever say anything negative, like warn her that the water might be a little chilly?

You will be an old lady when your child is in his or her 20's if not already dead. Anyone who has a child so late in life is not thinking about the future of that child at all. They are only thinking of themselves. There are age cutoffs at these clinics for a reason. Having a child in your 50's is absolutely ridiculous.

BTW...I am not over 50, but I am married to a man who is. That makes me AARP eligible but does not make me infertile. We have two lovely children to prove it.



1) No one here ever said that it is a good idea for men over 50 to have kids. 2) No, I think the more important issue is the risk being taken that you will not be able/ viable to raise the child into adulthood 3) No, those kids are already here and need a good home. But I do believe that preference for infants should be given to younger couples.

Why is OK for men older than 50 to have kids but not women older than 50? If you're worried about the health issues associated with pregnancy, would it be OK with you so long as a surrogate is used for carrying the pregnancy? Are you also against adoption by people over 50?

BTW...I am not over 50, but I am married to a man who is. That makes me AARP eligible but does not make me infertile. We have two lovely children to prove it.

I'm not the PP, and I don't have strong feelings one way or the other. It's her decision. However, even though I'm a very healthy 55+ years grandmother who exercises 3 to 4 times a week, I can tell you the physical energy level needed for motherhood diminishes at an astonishing rate as you approach 60 and 70. Not to mention possible arthritis type issues.

there are lot of reasons, primarily health related. i wish there were stricter ethical standards at these clinics.
