OMG I laugh out loud every single time someone says iTouch. I hope you don't say it IRL.

This is my thinking. Either an iTouch or an iPad will provide better value for the money, IMO.

I am considering a Kindle Fire for my kid. Considerably cheaper than an iPad with lots of apps too. Has anyone gone that route?

I too was contemplating the Leap Pad, but think I'll pass on it.

Another vote to skip it. Got it and my kids avoid it and go for
My phone and tablet instead. Get a nook color or kindle fire and download games and books for them instead.

Depends on your world view! I don't find it inappropriate at all but its an iPod not an itouch.

PP you're quoting here. I'm sorry, you missed the sarcasm

It's actually an iPod touch but so many square DCurbanmoms insist on calling it an iTouch

I'd get a mini over the touch.

OP here. Thanks for all of the feedback. Looks like the consensus is to go for an Apple product. I don't feel like I can shell out the money for three iPads. So maybe the iTouch is the way to go. Or maybe the iPad mini - is that like $300?

This is true at our house too

Thanks, that's what I thought! Now just need to get over my self-imposed stigma about buying an apple product for a Kindergartener...

No, you don't add it to your phone plan. It uses regular internet.

My dh thought the world of the LeapPad and we ended up buying it last Xmas, I was opposed because she already loved using my phone, Nook and Ipad. She used it some and every now and again uses it but over all it wasn't worth it. This year though, we are getting her a Kindle Fire.
