Yes, it is cheaper to cut contracting work. No people are hurt and you stop paying right away. That is why private companies do it. It is an easy way to reduce cost quickly. Bring important work back in and reduce the work force with early retirements and not hiring. The government will do less work with less people. What do you think they are going to, cut a department but keep contractors on? LOL the contractors are going to be hit hard.

The funding is all coming from the same pot. Cut the defense spending, period, and you will lose lots of contractors AND (hopefully) bloat at the Pentagon. Long overdue.

There are too many of them, doing too much repetitive work that is strictly 20th century, and padding the pockets of too many layers of people. Of course defense is not made up, but there is far too much crap involved in what goes on in this industry in Washington.

Add this to the fact that many of them are "retired" military people who are collecting a lifetime pension and benefits for their 25 years in the service, and you have a perfect example of corporate welfare.

The good thing with contractor work is if you have to save money you just cut the contract work. Do you really think they are going to federal employee first. ..that cost real money.
