hehehehe. +2

I would actually love to get another dog, but my lifestyle wouldn't allow me to give it the attention it needs right now. Someday! (My breed of choice is an American Pit Bull Terrier - the sweetest, most loyal, easy to train dogs but they require an outrageous amount of energy/exercise.)

Another pittie fan here! We had a wonderful pit for 14 years. She didn't always LOVE other dogs, and she positively despised cats, but holy moly did this dog love kids. I don't have kids of my own, so she didn't have her own little ones to play with, but in my parents' neighborhood this is a gaggle of little girls who she adored. They'd come over to play with her.

I now have a pointer mix, who I think is my ideal dog. He is so easy going. He'll take ridiculously long walks with me (we've gone up to 15 miles together) but is also happy being a couch potato. He's big enough that I feel a little safer out walking him around at night. Sheds like crazy, is a little bit racist (horrifying), wants to murder bicyclists - so, yes, he has his downsides. But I adore this dog, despite those less commendable traits. I realized how good a fit he is for me when my husband and I were dogsitting for a friend's little corgi, who hates taking walks. Just refuses to go on them.

+1 for the pits!! She loves our baby and he loves her, and she is so snuggable. Hates most dogs though.

German Shepherd. We've owned several different breeds/mixes over the years. We got our first shepherd about four years ago and got a second last year. By far the best dogs I have ever had. Smart. Protective. Very easy to train. Great with kids. Low energy in the house. Wide open outside. I don't worry about anyone ever breaking into my house.

But they shed. Oh how they shed.

This. I have a dog I'm pretty sure is a shepherd mix and he is all these things. I had wanted to get a lab mix, but now that I've experienced my shepherd, I don't think I'm ever going back. He's super laid back when inside, filled with shear joy when loping through the woods outside, sweet as could be with our kids, very responsive to commands, and has enabled me to do things I wouldn't have felt safe doing without him by my side (solo camping, long runs at dusk, etc).

I'm sorry but that is the worst breed of dogs. You must have an exception, because they are all assholes.

I will second the vote for Shiba Inu's. Keep in mind...it's not the dog that is the problem...it's usually the owner. It is an aggressive breed, so it is one that you need to train appropriately. That being said, if trained right, they are incredible sweet and loyal. Everyone who meets our dog really wants one afterward. Our vet jokes with us that our dog must not know he is a Shiba. Great breed with the right training.

I have a lab mix and the first year was hell, I had major regret. Now that she has just gotten over the hump of that first year, she is such a joy.....so sweet and loving, she really wants to just please us. I'm so happy to have to gotten to this place with her.

If I had the ability to get a second dog, it would be a German Shepherd or a Ridgeback. I wish our dog were more protective. Our old dog was protective, but a baby wtih people we invited in the home, but was 120lbs of nasty if someone she did not know came anywhere near the house.
