I understand OP. It is generations and generations of a genetic lineage that is ending. Of course your mom's heritage is more than genetic but there is something about blood lines ending after hundreds of years that is meaningful in its own way.

OP it is a thoughtful post. I am polish too and it is my only child fathers genes I fear dying out since I have been unable to conceive. This is an issue I am grappling with in being able to move on to building our family either through adoption or donor ege. My brother is adopted and also does not have children even though he wants them desparately. Your mom is lucky to have such a thoughtful and loving daughter. Focus on what pps have suggested.

I understand. I felt the pressure as the family name has now died out on my mum's side and also on my dad's side as there are no procreating males and I'm female. My husband and his parents are the only ones in the US with his last name, and even back home, their name is a lengthier version of the name. So our kids now share that name.

So, the blood's there with my kids on my side, but not in name, and that's kind of sad. It feels like recent members of my family are now reduced to old names in a family tree that no on even has any stories about anymore.... you existed... so what?
