Some very nice features, although I'm much more partial to the modern look of the 600 sf condo. As for the lady's small apartment, what is with that stupid idea of designers to push the middle of pillows down? I think it looks like they are making pillows into some sort of fortune cookie. I've noticed that designers love this and I think it is the stupidest thing ever and that they should just leave the pillows square shaped.

There are houses as small as 90 sf. They are 2 level with loft beds above a combined single room living/cooking area with a small stall bathroom. Google "tiny house" and look at images and you'll see a variety of homes from about 90 sf to about 500 sf. If designed well, it isn't as cramped as it sounds. Still small, but with the right design, you can do a lot with a small space.

We bought a SFH with 600 sq ft four years ago. It was 93 years old. It had a bedroom, bathroom (tub, no shower), living room, and galley kitchen with a "breakfast nook" that you had to sit down into because the ceiling slanted and you couldn't actually stand up in there. The kitchen had a stove, fridge, sink, and a washing machine. 1 small counter and a couple of small cabinets.

It had a cellar (about 5" high). The foundation was shot. We tore it down and built a brand new house. The realtor tried to bill it as an opportunity to live more "green", but it seemed so incredibly unsafe to live there. (And no one had for months and months, if not years)

We recently moved our family of 5 plus dog from a 3500 sq. ft. single family home to a 2000 sq. ft. townhome. I enjoy the change to something smaller, especially the fact that we got rid of a lot of unnecessary junk in the process. I don't think I'd want to go smaller until all the kids are launched the college (in 5-10 more years). A this point I'd be tempted to move to a 2 bedroom apartment or condo.

No, I would absolutely not buy a barely 600 sq ft for three people. Your children will grow quickly.

DD DH and I are in 700 sq ft right now. I try to make as much use of vertical shelving and storage as possible. My furniture is fairly petite- I also recommend antiques, which can be gorgeous and are designed for small spaces. My coffee table has wheels and I have two storage ottomans that I use for extra seating. I use my parents' basement in WV as my storage facility lol. I try to keep everything minimal- I was looking at my closet the other day and I realized almost everything was black (I always match!).

I lived in a 1 BR condo for many years. 750 sq. ft. When I got married we lived there together. It worked out great. But when we had twins, we moved to a SFH.
