I don't. She was guilty of attempted murder, child abuse and cruel and unusual punishment. And another thought. While rape and murder are horrific crimes, those are committed against adults who have some ability to defend themselves and to think and look for opportunities to save themselves. A innocent child has no such defenses. A child relies on its parents/guardians for safety and nurturing, has no understanding that they can or should defend themselves. It is the ultimate betrayal by the most trusted person who should protect them. As Dante would say, the ninth circle of hell is reserved for treachery and betrayal. This mother appropriately belongs there, but fortunately, here in the secular world, we can only place her in prison.
