You can see what is still available here: https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/dmvnet/plate_purchase/select_plate.asp

I was surprised some of my guesses were still available...or maybe not.

A Virginia personalized license plate costs a whopping $10 additional, if you get the plain plate. That's the same as getting one of fancy plates, like the mountains or leaves, and not personalizing it.

DH and I both have personalized plates, playing off our last name. Our SIL also has one playing off our last name. At least I always know what my plate is!

They're really cheap in VA so a lot of people have them, and because the buy-in isn't large, some really non-creative (or stupid) people use them to say really dumb things. Like the girl I knew who had "HNDACAR" on her honda. What a dumbass.

I saw the "how I roll" mercedes the other day, weirdly enough. My favorite vanity plate of all time - that I used to see all the time - was "STB4VT" with a Vtech sticker. (Saint Before V Tech) My least fave: "DCUNTD" because it supports DC United but has the C word in it. Can't believe that one got past the censors.

H8Duke was in front of me the other day. I went to Duke. I drove by and gave him the finger.

FUCK YOU VANITY PLATE GUY!

I have an alumni plate for my university. I'm proud to give back, after all they gave me.

Is that really your idea of fun? Seriously? It's worth $30 a year or whatever to you?

Maybe it was a mother's day present from her DH, or her adult children.

Some dude in the next neighborhood over has a big black Benz with the plates reading "MBA CPA". Based on seeing his driving an behavior in public, he's a total douchebag.
