Don't worry. I am sure he wants to get out of the house and away from you ASAP also.

20 57. I agree but that's why he needs to network to find a good fit. The right one will not magically appear without some foot work.

Maybe you can encourage him to take a communications class - how to have difficult conversations.

If he can't talk to you now - he is going to have a tough time telling his boss unpleasant news.

I would still encourage him to apply to many things to avoid possible disappointment. Even still in college he can network, etc. Good luck.

If you are a helicopter parent, are you one of those parents who calls out for your son's doctors appointments at his internship? I work for a public accounting firm and having an interns parents call is strangely not uncommon (and not looked at as a good thing!.

Accounting is one of the few fields that is growing. There is no reason why he should not find a firm where the culture is a fit.

Maybe son rejected Big4 offer? Wants to keep options open, but doesn't know how to tell you? Or, just wants to spite meddling grandparent? Not likely scenarios, but anything is possible. Son, not DCUM, will clear up this mystery.

Offers went out at the end of the internship. If you have asked and been Told differently it is time to reflect on the communication within the family.

I don't think there are enough accountants on this board to answer your question, OP. now, if you were asking about law offers...

Well the kid's a senior so hopefully he's ... you know - working productively at getting a college degree!

It seems that he indeed did not get an offer, but applied again in the fall. OP said he "applied", so it's unclear whether he was even considered or interviewed in the fall at all.

Timing also depends on the number of office visits a firm is supposed to have. I remember we kept interviewing people in December one year and therefore many candidates who were interviewed in October had to wait till all interviews are over. If a candidate is really great, they may extend an offer prior to completion of all office visits. However, most people have to wait.
