So does the approving officer not know that a division/component/office has posted a position and interviewed candidates until a final package is presented? Why wouldn't they only post positions for which exceptions would be made? It seems like a huge waste of DOJ time and money to vet a candidate first, and then see if a position can be found for that candidate.

I've posted a position in this situation because my AAG said something mealy-mouthed like "I'd have to see the applicant to say" when I asked for hiring permission. So I said "so that means I have posting permission?" and the AAG chose not to argue about it. Did eventually get the preferred applicant funded.

Best to proceed as if you will not get the job and put it out of your mind. Then be pleasantly surprised if you do.

well, there's no longer a hiring freeze, new poster, but DOJ still moves slow as molasses. "quickly" could mean a couple of months. And attempts at "quick" have been known to stretch into many months.

Bump. Obviously not the op, although I do hope her husband got the job! I had an interview, and they're hoping to make a decision quickly, but was just curious what other experiences had been.

Is it often that you can go through the DOJ interview process and be recommended to be hired, but then not be hired by the HR and/or budgeting office?

I am assuming he applied as an attorney, right? The issue is that even if the individual office wants to hire them, they have to then pitch him to the DAG, and given the hiring freeze, put in case for why they should get an exeption to the freeze (there are exceptions, I was hired under one).

How long did it take for you to get your offer?

How long has it been taking to get an offer lately under this freeze?

Why on earth would they post positions that have not yet been approved? This process seems crazy.

OP -- did your husband get the job? I'm in the same position. My references were checked a month ago, but I have yet to hear anything back. Is this typical of DOJ at this time of year?
