OP, since you are asking others for their spouse's income, it is only fair that you share yours. just saying ... not that i really care ...

Lucky you. If I were in your position and DH made $1million a year I would probably still work. But aren't you already only part time if you only work while your kids are in school?

Btw, don't pay yourself too hard on the back for your "mindset." You've got a great gig that most people would kill for, regardless of what their husbands make.

Signed,
A SAHM because my profession imploded. Not because of my "mindset."

Agreed. Many SAHMs and FT WOHMs would kill to have that setup, but don't have the option.

I like my career but if he made another million a year I would quit, manage a full time housekeeper, travel, and take up piano.

We make 500,000 now. It's a ton, I know, although about half after taxes. But it's not enough to give up my salary and keep a nanny, cleaner, etc. while saving what we want to a year. In other words for me to stay home we'd have to be crazy internationally rich.

Enough for me to SAH and have a housekeeper.

He already makes it.

$110K and we live a pretty comfortable life.

I would only stay home if I had enough money in the bank to live off the rest of my life. in my name. I love my husband, but power corrupts even saints.

well, a couple years back, I would have said $90K. Then my husband started making that, and I realized I was enjoying my PT job too much at that point to quit. Then, we bought a larger house, have some higher monthly bills...and we lost my salary from my normally 30-hour per week job for a short time but my husband hadn't gotten a well deserved raise in the 3 years he had worked at that job. So, we had to live on that $90K for a few months and had to cut out savings to make ends meet. So, certainly NOT $90K with our current situation - probably closer to $130K+. He just started making six figures a couple months back when he switched jobs.

We only have one child in school and another isn't looking likely at this point. What the hell would I do with myself while my kid is at school? Honestly, I'd be bored out of my mind in a few weeks. When I quit my FT job when my kid was 2 and went PT, I realized quickly that I was NOT meant to be a FT SAHM - I need more balance.

So, at this point - no amount would make me want to quit my job that gives me something to do while my kid is at school and keeps my skills current.

I was just running numbers while nursing. My conclusion, for us, is 250k. Right now I SAH and DH makes 180 and it's tight. I'll probably go back to work soon but if he made 250, I might reconsider.

A six figure salary is not low. Even if it is $100K. Not even in this area.

A low six-figure salary means that it's in the low $100k's.

Yes, I understand that. She is saying her husband's pay increase is more than her "low six figure salary." I am saying that any six figure salary is not low. I don't even think my $60K salary is low.

You are dense....

OK... since you didn't get it the first (or second) time.
Six figure salary = 100,000 - 999,999
LOW six figures generally means closer to the 100,000 mark
HIGH six figures generally means closer to the 999,999 mark
MID six figures generally means around the 500,000 mark
So the PP meant her salary is in the LOWER range of six figures.
Sheesh...

Duh. PP got it. You're the ridiculous one.

Oof. Another one. I need a drink.

Don't want to deal with a shift in our relationship if DH has all of the economic power. Ugh.

+1
It's not just about money - it's about independence and relationship dynamics.

DON'T. DO. IT.
