It's not super scary. It is suspenseful with surprising twists.

Gillian Flynn's writing gets into your head, but like PP said, not super scary. She also wrote Sharp Objects & Dark Places. I recommend both.

I recently enjoyed Rules of Civility and The Paris Wife.

If you like Young Adult (think Hunger Games), I just read a new thriller NERVE by Jeanne Ryan. It was a great, quick read and realistic in the sense that we already have reality shows where people eat bugs or such on a "dare". Anyway, I really enjoyed it!
