Hi OP, I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I imagine the waiting is torture and I'm sorry that you can't get answers sooner, and that you don't feel like your providers are giving you enough information. It doesn't seem like continuing with your current OB would make sense given the circumstances, so looking for a new one seems like a good plan. Hopefully some others on here will have good recommendations. You could also ask Dr. Pinkert -- he probably works with a lot of different OBs and might have thoughts on who would be a good fit for you given your individual situation. Best of luck and please keep us posted on how everything is going. Also I hope at some point you will tell your OB how much his handling of this situation has affected you, so that perhaps he will handle the situation differently in the future with other patients, or will at least understand your feelings. I think sometimes it can be very healing for you too, to tell a provider if you don't feel you received good care.

I'm so sorry, OP, that really sucks. As I said above, I know nothing about your diagnosis and what it means, but I can very well imagine the anxiety it causes. I think it is a good idea to find a new OB. With Dr. Pinckert as your MFM, you will need a regular OB, because he doesn't do regular deliveries (unlike the MFMs at GW, but my experience with Dr. Macri wasn't too positive for reasons I gave above - although most people love him). Whom you choose for your OB, of course, depends on the hospital where you want to deliver. If you are seeing Dr. P, you might want to deliver at Holy Cross or SG, because those are the hospitals he is affiliated with. But let us know what your priorities are regarding your choice of OB, then people might be able to help.

OP. We are going through a second round of heartbreak. We got our sonogram summary in the mail and were shocked to read that both lateral ventricles are affected. We both only heard her say that one was during the office visit. So we are looking at bilateral dilation rather than unilateral. Also that the ventriculomegaly is confirmed by a dangling choroid plexus (which doesn't may not mean much more but it is further confirmation that this is ventriculomegaly and not an error in the sonographer's measurements). How much of a difference this new information makes we're not entirely sure but just reading something different than we were told is like reliving the whole moment over. I've also read in more of other people's accounts that they were immediately referred to a MFM specialist for this condition and not told to just sit on it for four weeks. I have become infuriated with our OB and am looking for a new one. From what I understand I still need a regular OB while seeing a MFM? If anyone with previous experience with this situation can recommend a new OB while I see Dr. Pinckert your help would be appreciated.

This is sort of a side issue, but it's clear you feel your OB is not being up front with you about a big issue (and it doesn't matter if she doesn't think it's big...you do, and she should answer the questions you ask with respect). I would consider switching providers. You deserve to get honest answers about your pregnancy, and this isn't the last time you will have hard questions and need to trust your OB (imagine these kind of answers in labor!). OP here. From what I understand it could be helpful to wait a couple of weeks between scans to see if there has been any change. It will be hard to wait an extra week but it will give us more information.

That's too bad that you didn't get an appointment earlier... I can totally understand how difficult the wait is (even though likely everything will be fine!). So the OB made the appointment? Did she limit her request to one of the three offices? Dr. P. is at a different office each day. Maybe if you are flexible you can get in earlier if you call and ask if they have an opening at a different office.

I had this with #2. I was already seeing a MFM specialist (who I'd also seen for #1) and that's where it was seen on the scan. Honestly, he pretty much said it like your OB, that it isn't uncommon and don't worry and tried to avoid much detail since it sounds worse than it almost always is.

OB was tied up yesterday, this morning she got us an appointment with Dr. Pinckert for next Wednesday and will send over our results plus mail a copy to us. It will be a long wait until next Wednesday.
